In The Picture {February}

February is my least favorite month. I'm thankful it's the shortest and this year, I've been thankful that the weather has been mild. Other than that, this month has been going as expected. It's busy and on most days overwhelming. Lots of transition, which for a girl like me, is a challenge. I'm trying to live in the light and enjoy the journey for everything that it is and know that it is taking me to the place where I am meant to be. That at this moment, I am exactly where I am supposed to be.

Water Lily {52 Photos}

Lately, there are more moving parts in my life than not. I'm trying to just going with it. I find myself gathering inspiration from water. Its flux and flow. How easily it goes from one place to the next seamlessly, without any permanent disruption. How it always comes back to that same centered place.

I've decided it's much easier to be open to what's coming your way. There's something freeing about letting yourself be carried by the rhythm and movement.

Feeling:

overwhelmed but excited

Eating:

nothing, I skipped breakfast, as I could barely drag my ass out of bed this morning...ugh

Drinking:

an extra hot caramel mocha from Starbucks, there's ALWAYS time for coffee and it probably has more calories than breakfast, anyway (ooo, that's so unhealthy, don't care ;)

Wearing:

skinny jeans, flats, a cassette tape charm necklace, and a floral top (got the spring fevah already and it isn't even March)

Wanting:

to be packed, we're putting our house on the market in a week and have an INCREDIBLE amount of prep work to do. It is amazing the amount of crap you realize you have when you have to go through it all. I'm looking at it as a cleansing experience though. I can't wait to get rid of EVERYTHING I don't absolutely need.

Weather:

clear and fresh, hence the biting of the spring bug (63)

Enjoying:

having a full plate, though it's stressful, I'm an avid list check-er off-er and it feels so good

Thinking:

that everything happens exactly the way it's supposed to

Needing:

to stay focused. to stay positive. to know that it will all work out.

I think of this poem often and for many different reasons with various people in mind. I carry them all in my heart. It's amazing how my heart expands to accompany the needs of itself, sometimes it seems without my asking it to. It's wondrous how it knows what it wants even when I'm not always sure.

I have no problem admitting it. I am not a fan of Valentine's Day. I do not need a formal invitation to eat chocolate. I won't go into the many reasons I dislike this supposed holiday (the forced pressure, red everywhere (even worse - pink)) but I will say I am a girl that LOVES a love song. Everyday. So I made you mixed tape. These are just a few favorites but they barely scratch the surface of my ridiculous musical love library.

Love Letter {52 Photos Project}

I, unlike the beautiful Bella, at 52 Photos Project, do not particularly like the month of February. I find it the most depressing of the year. I'm thankful it's the shortest. The forced gimmicky love, it's busy season at work, the generally dismal weather. I can easily think of several other months I'd rather it be. But I have no choice in the matter so....

I've been have "A" time lately. And by "A" time, of course I mean, a shitty one. I wrecked my car today (pretty bad), I hurt my hand, my migraines have been increasingly worse recently, it just seems like one thing after the other. The old cliche, when it rains it pours, isn't that the truth? I've been trying to ignore the signs because I'm exhausting myself trying to figure out the meaning of it all. To put my head forward and just keep moving. But something is telling me to slow it down. To maybe even stop....

Love Letter to ME & YOU:

Most of it is illegal (appeals to the naughty in me) and I can not imagine painting these things on a regular canvas let alone a building or some other urban landscape. Only the Beginning

Here it is the first, again. It's always the same. I love the flipping of the calendar the starting of something new, the possibility of the threshold. I tend to make tiny goals for myself on the first of each month. Nothing big, just small things...

Blog more.

I'm committed to blogging everyday this month. I feel like I've been neglecting this space (I feel like I keep saying that) and not because I feel I NEED to blog everyday but because something inspires me everyday or there is something on my mind everyday, that I would like to share with you. Sometimes life just gets in the way. I realize this is bound to happen but I feel so much better when I'm here, sharing with you.

Push my shutter limits.

I'm doing a few photography projects at the moment and have tons of ideas for others and I'd like to actually make some of those a reality. I have been an instagramming fool of the late but I miss my "real" cameras and I think they miss me, too.

Write more.

This is ALWAYS on my list. I wish my hands were as fast as my brain. Or that it was socially acceptable to sit with pen and paper in hand at all times buuuuuut it's not. So I think of things and maybe make a quick note (on paper, in my iPhone, or pretend I will remember) and say "I'll get to that later." Then at the end of the day, I climb into bed and read what someone else has written instead of what I want to write. I need to do more writing in the NOW.

Slow down.

I'm always rushing and going and doing this and that. I want to slow down just a bit and enjoy things in the moment a bit. I have a hard time with that. I was not born with this mysterious virtue they call patience (though I am conscious of it and attempt to work on it) and I am always looking forward, moving fast, on to the next thing. I just want to practice breathing a little deeper.

It's me {In the Picture}

When I started my blogging journey almost two years ago it was a big step for me. I am a classic closet introvert and almost painfully private but I knew I wanted a space of my own. I knew I wanted to share things and connect with people through things that mutually inspire us. I started my blog and promptly quit. I let my fears of not being "good enough" take hold. My ego ("no one is reading it or no one cares") got in the way. I let my insecurities stop me from doing something I wanted do. Then I found Bella's 52 Photo's Project. It was the first week and it combined taking photos (which I love) with blogging (which I wanted to love) and it gave me a place to "land" every week. It was another starting point for me and I haven't stopped since.

I connected with a few other lovelies that have always made me feel like coming back to my space was the absolute right thing to do if for nothing else than to connect with them, Amanda, Monica, and MJ. Thank You, my Darlings!

I'm so delighted with how this space has grown and how I have grown with it. It makes me so happy that you visit and my hope is that one thing (even if only one time) catches your eye or touches your heart.

I started a self portraiture project at the beginning of this year with the amazing Christy, from Urban Muser. I committed myself to a minimum of a portrait a week, a 52 week project. I must say that in only four weeks it has been quite the experience. It really is a considerable change to come from behind the camera. It's a whole different process. A wonderful one. I can't wait to see where this project takes me. Where is takes us all. Please check out the flickr group or head on over to Urban Muser to get inspired. Maybe even make a change, come out from behind the lens, and get {In the Picture}.

Double Exposure {Pinney Thursday}

I've always been fascinated with double exposure. It used to be that a piece of film was exposed twice with two different images creating one superimposed (super awesome) image. They always have a kind of eerie unnatural feeling to me, but yet they demand to be. Nowadays, in this digital day and age the possibilities are endless. The artistic range with multiple exposure has been blown wide open. It's truly amazing what some people are doing.

I like to think back on the very first double exposure. Was it an accident or an intentional act of genius?

Some Film and a little Tune

I've finally gotten around to scanning some of my film (my polaroids/fujifilm, at least) and even posted some on flickr, which I am also terrible at keeping updated. I'm trying to be better about it with the start of the new year and all but with so many places to post your photos, I wonder, do people get sick of seeing the same pictures from you, just on different sites?? Color Theories {52 Photos Project}

I look for color everywhere I go. I like things that stand out. Maybe because they are a bit different than me. I mostly dress in neutrals (with a small pop of color, for giggles, you know) and I have no interest in being the center of attention. I seek out these things that demand to be be seen.

H is for...Hip Hip Hipstamatic {Me&You52}

This week for Me&You52 the letter is "H" and the "H" is for Hiptsamatic. It is by far one of MY favorite photography apps out there. It was one of the first ones I ever got and I still love it and use it regularly.

Considered "revolutionary" when it first came out you can switch between a variety of lenses, "film", and even different flashes.

There can be a bit of fun with it in that you have to choose the settings before you take the picture, unlike a lot of the other photography apps where you do your editing after you've taken the photo. You have to decide the mood, visualize the end result, similar to traditional film. Or you can go the other route (just as fun) and shake your phone and it switches everything to random and every photo is a surprise. :) Like magic...

simply me... {in the picture}

Today is the kick off of a new self-portraiture project over at Urban Muser. I think as people who love to take photos, we rarely end up in them. That's what makes it so important to step from behind the lens and put yourself in the picture. There aren't many rules, you can take 2 or 100 self-portraits, you can share them on your blog or in the flickr group. There will be a monthly link up on the last Friday of each month over at Urban Muser.

I have personally committed to 52 self-portraits, that's one a week. I'm looking forward to seeing where this project takes me.

{The New} 52 Photos Project

This weeks prompt on 52 Photos Project is to share photos from the first day of this year. It's no secret I love a fresh start. There's just so much hope in it. I spent New Years Day at home with my little family, lounging and eating and cleaning my office/studio. I organized my supplies and made some lists of upcoming projects, and I found this "luck" card and taped it to the inside cover of my new planner. (Yes, I still use a "paper"planner. I can't get the hang of having EVERYTHING electronic. I still read ACTUAL books, too, if you can believe it!) Now, luck is a fickle thing and not everyone believes in it but this was taped there with the best intentions for an amazing 2012, with a little (or a lot of) good luck sprinkled in.

I wish the same for you.

To New Beginnings...

A fresh start. A clean slate. A new beginning.

Each year instead of choosing a long list of resolutions that are nearly impossible to keep I choose a word. My word for 2012 is PERSEVERANCE. There is much to be done and even more to be excited about but none of it can be accomplished without hard work and dedication. 2012 is my year to get it done!

Left Behind {52 Photos Project}

2011 hasn't been the best year for my family and I but I wouldn't say it's been the worst either. (It's definitely in the running, though.) I will say that MANY amazing things have happened this year and I'm truly grateful for all my experiences, even the not so wonderful ones.

Love the moment. Flowers grow out of dark moments. Therefore, each moment is vital. It affects the whole. Life is a succession of such moments and to live each, is to succeed.

In 2012, I want to let go of FEAR. I seem to have so much of it. Some of it warranted, some of it completely ridiculous, all of it about things that are out of my control. I want to stop fearing these invisible things that could or could not happen. I want to set myself free from the negative "what if" scenarios and focus on the present.

Christmas 2011

Christmas has come and gone and it was wonderful! Lots of family and way too much food, laughter, dancing, did I mention food (?) and LOVE. Lots and lots of love.

Just 1 Picture {52 Photos Project}

I took shelter where the sky is biggest, where land meets the endless earth, and I felt the motion deep within me. The endless spinning of a wandering soul. The ever changing constant equally scary and exhilarating. I listened to the waves crashing and the seagulls laughing. I heard my heart growing. To stand in the place where you feel closest to the Universe and capture it with a click of your finger is MAGIC.

**Just 1 Picture for 52 Photos Project today...We were asked to choose one of our favorite pictures over the past year. This was really hard as I have literally take thousands of pictures this year ( a little sick, I know) but I kept coming back to this one. More the feeling of it.**

Another week, flown by. Trying to catch my breath and make sure everything is in order for the fast approaching holiday. I'm joining 52 Photos Project for {Treats} and Mortal Muses for {Believe}. Believe is one of my favorite words. I believe in a lot of things, deeply, whole-heartedly, and intuitively.

I believe in duality of self.

I believe you are beautiful. (Thank you, Jen Gray, for my favorite sticker!)

I believe these two babes are going to have an awesome Christmas!! :)

Hello There! How I've missed you so!

I can't believe it's already the middle of the month! It feels like it has flown by (as December always does) and I've been as busy as ever but I am also consciously taking things slow in my down time. Letting the clean laundry get wrinkly on the couch in my bedroom, staying in bed a few extra minutes, going to bed way too early to read, being super snuggly with my babes, not giving as much love and attention to this space as I usually do. I feel a little lazy, borderline self indulgent at the moment, but it will pass. I will say, I am AHEAD on my shopping and wrapping for Christmas, which makes me feel a bit better.

My birthday is on Sunday so I will allow the slight self -absorption to continue through the weekend then I must get over myself. Maybe it's the cold snap we've been having, or the approaching holidays, or maybe I'm just needing a little extra care lately. Taking that little extra time for me, even if it is just a little, is so.....UPLIFTING.

Make sure you take some for yourself, if you need it.

December View and Mini-Goals

It's already the 4th! I don't know where the time went. December for me is filled with birthdays (5 including my own!) and get-togethers and shopping and wrapping and cleaning and baking. The whole month seems to fly by, every year. This time around I want to make a few small goals for myself for the month to stay focused and centered:

Slow down!! As hard as it is, with all the activities and responsibilities. I want to try and enjoy it. Enjoy the magic of the season and appreciate the extra time spent with family and friends.

Revamp my favorite space. I'm working on a little blog makeover. Switching up a few things, making it more "me". I love this space and I am so excited about things to come. It may not be completely finished in December but I want to be actively working on it.

Write more. I've been neglecting my journals and frankly, myself. I haven't been carving out as much time as I would like to for my writing. I just let my ideas come and go and try to hold on to them and think, "oh, I'll write that down later" but lately, I haven't been taking that time to clear my head space. I need to do this. No time like the present.

Update my flickr! I am THE worst at this. I don't know why, but I am SUCH a slacker when it comes flickr. I want to start the new year up to date and then I can have a goal in 2012 to be better about this.

Be a little easier on myself. I can't do everything, I can't be everywhere, and there are always going to be things that aren't going to get done. Letting go sounds a lot easier than it is, but I'm willing to give it a good try.

{Something Borrowed} 52 Photos Project

I never leave my Best Friend's House empty handed. She's always making jewelry and while she does that I take pictures and go through her closet. :) So, right away two things came to mind for this weeks {Something Borrowed} prompt for Bella's 52 Photo's Project.

The first is this Asian style silk jacket. It was her Grandmother's. Her name was Charlotte. The silk is so worn and soft. It's like I can almost feel the history in it. Instant comfort in cool silk and turquoise flowers.

The second, ah the second thing...I've been working on borrowing this jacket for forever. She said no EVERY time. I kept asking though and it became sort of a joke between us. It was her Mothers in high school and I would just look at it sitting there, so lonely, in the same place I'd left it the last time I tried it on. Yes, that is a Lion, with Mountains, and even Clouds and a Full Moon all stitched in leather and suede. The jean material is so broken in it feels like a cotton shirt. It screams amazing 70's vintage. She finally said YES!!

It's just too cool. And so is she.

It takes a long time to grow an old friend.

Letters to Love Project

Okay, so if you visit here often or even if you've only visited once or twice, you know I'm a bit obsessed with Love. I can admit it but it can't be helped. It's in my DNA. I do believe it's the reason we're here. Perhaps, the basis of all other emotions (simply my opinion, and a discussion we can save for a later time).

This idea has been waltzing around in my brain space for an eternity. The trick is, I need your help:

I need some love.

I need some love letters.

I am calling on you to write a love letter, THE love letter, YOUR love letter. It can be about any thing, any place or anyone. It can be for the one that broke you, the one that teaches you, the one who showed you the way. It can be the letter you will never send to it's rightful owner. It can be written, drawn, one syllable. There are NO RULES.

This is an exercise in letting go, giving in, truly feeling. So tell it exactly how YOU would tell it.

I will pick one letter a week to feature (I will contact you prior to featuring, for approval, of course). You are also welcome to submit your letter or letters anonymously, if you just need to send it out. Sometimes it feels good to simply get it out of your heart. I will also, in turn, share some of my love letters with you.

Everyone that submits a letter will receive a special 'thank you' from me for showing the love.

Georgia O'Keeffe

The Happy Day Project {Day 1}

This week I'm participating in The Happy Day Project over at Life Re-Arranged. It's a week of random acts of kindness. There are daily tasks meant to share the goodness, paired with virtual ones for us busy bodies.
Today, I participated by visiting Shop for Sharlie, where can buy printables or tutorials (most for $5) and ALL proceeds go directly to the Sharlie’s Angels fund. Sharlie is a mama with cystic fibrosis and in need of a heart AND double lung transplant. No donation is too small and every bit can help with her expenses.

Seeing Me...

At Serendipity, I had the opportunity to enjoy a self-portraiture class by the beautifully talented Kate Inglis. It's an strange thing to photograph yourself. Most of us do it, but do we really LOOK? We see ourselves everyday, in a passing mirrors or windows, as reflections but as photographers, we are always behind the glass and unless you are lucky enough to have friends that are also in love with snapping away, there are rarely pictures of us. It's a kind of odd, intimate thing to photograph yourself. You see things in an expression you were unaware was lurking or a glimmer of light that shows you something you didn't notice before.

Insta-Friday {6}

I've missed Insta-Friday the past couple of weeks because I have been a traveling girl. Busy, Busy, Busy. But very happy, nonetheless and snapping away. The Rum Diary. Loved it! Definitely not for everyone. I am a huge Johnny Depp fan (is there anyone who isn't?) and his character Kemp is loosely based on Hunter S. Thompson, The Doctor!, another of my most favorite people. "I smell ink", loved this line, maybe because I feel like sometimes, "I think in ink". Watch the movie, you'll understand.....maybe?. ;)

Dia de Los Muertos {Day of the Dead}

So it was officially earlier this week but I just couldn't resist. It's just too beautiful. Dia de Los Muertos or Day of the Dead is a holiday in remembrance of those friends and family that are no longer sharing this lifetime with us. It is widely known as a Mexican holiday but is celebrated in many different cultures. It fittingly coincides with All Souls Day here in the US. It's had me thinking a lot about my souls. The ones I miss, that I no longer get to see but who I know are always with me. I carry them in my heart.

Treat {52 Photos Project}

Joining Bella for a Treat at 52 Photos Project today.

I captured this beauty in the middle of the night, in the freezing cold, on the way back to my hotel on my last night in the city. She stopped me mid-stride. The lighting isn't the best but you can see the angles and detail and love that went into creating her. All on the side of a garage door!

Today I am thankful for radiant girls of the night. Happy to just be. Noticed or not, it makes no difference to them. Today I am thankful to let go of expectations.

It's a brand new month. A fresh start. All Souls Day. The beginning of NaBloPoMo, or National Blog Posting Month. So get ready Readers, Friends, and Lovelies because I will be posting at LEAST once a day for the ENTIRE month of November.

Because November (here in the US) holds one of my favorite holidays, Thanksgiving, most of my posts will be about gratitude, giving thanks, or simply being gracious. I think it is a common thread in my life and it is easy for me to find something I am thankful for EVERYDAY. In fact, I already do this everyday, I just don't always share it with you. Well, that is about to change. It will be fun and I hope you enjoy!

Today it's all about the City of My Heart.
New York City.
It's difficult to describe.
I'm in love with her.
She is beautiful in ways I have no words for.
She hides me and coaxes me into the light.
She lets me be invisible.
She is a convergence of senses.
Her smells that meld and change with each step.
Constant sound that becomes part of her, fading into the background.
The way she lets me get lost yet I feel like I'm always going the right direction.
She never sleeps but her energy is boundless.
The way she is just and unwavering.
She doesn't coddle or choose favorites.
Her soul sells opportunity in everything, chances in the air.
But most of all,
I love the way she waits for me.

Thought Bubbles from New York

So I had the pleasure of spending a few days in the city this weekend. Total surprise, totally unplanned. I did a ton of walking, lauging, snapping (the camera kind, not the finger kind) and then freezing. I left yesterday and it was snowing! I'm not talking a flurry or two. I'm saying it was SNOWING! in OCTOBER! It was a lovely (but too short) trip. I'm tired and I miss my family. I feel like I haven't been home in forever. We have company coming for Halloween (it's the Hubster's favorite holiday) and we have a big dinner with eyeballs and worms (spaghetti and meatballs) and then take all the kiddos trick or treating. I'll be sure to take pics to share.
